Who he?
If you are wondering who is Patrick Wise and why has he set up this website, let me explain. During my 27 year charity career I worked for two major charities, Oxfam and the NSPCC. Over that time I handled incoming legacies and helped supporters to leave legacies, and I had the privilege of seeing how people benefit from legacies.
- I saw people supplied with clean drinking water where before they had walked miles for dirty stagnant water; medicine brought to remote areas by local people trained as paramedics; farmers given basic tools to enable them to grow food;
- I saw skilled, dedicated people tenderly help frightened children find the hope and joy in life that we tend to take for granted; I saw people given the means to help themselves.
Whatever your favourite charity does, you can help them with a legacy
Charities cover urgent needs in the arts, health, education, sport; culture … the list goes on. Whatever the charitable need, legacies can help them all, effectively and efficiently, yet few of us give this wonderful way.
And if you are involved in a charity yourself, tell your supporters about this website, to encourage them to leave legacies in support of your work.
I want to share my experience through this website, in the hope that it helps supporters and charities to get the most from legacies. Most of all, I hope it helps you. Please let me know if it does, at patrickwise@waitrose.com, and thank you for visiting.I recommend consulting a solicitor when making a will.
Wise's Whimsical Wills
Joan Crawford, the late American film star, cut two of her daughters out
of her will entirely. However, one of them, Christina, gained revenge and
considerable wealth by writing a book about how awful it was to be brought
up by 'Mommie Dearest'.
